The Goblin Toll Bridge

Level 1, 2-3 hours. Goblins have taken over a river bridge and are charging travelers a toll. Free 5E compatible one-shot for new DMs.

Hook

A merchant at the inn begs the party to clear the bridge so her wagon of medicine can reach the next town. She offers 25 gp each.

Scene 1: The road

On the way, the party finds a smashed cart. A DC 12 Wisdom (Survival) check spots small footprints leading to the bridge, and the goblins' plan to ambush the next wagon.

Scene 2: The bridge

Three Goblin Warriors (CR 1/4) guard the bridge. They'd rather take a bribe of 5 gp than fight. If combat starts, one runs to warn the boss.

Scene 3: The camp

Under the bridge is a camp with the goblin boss (use a Goblin Boss, CR 1) and two more Goblin Warriors. The boss can be talked into leaving if offered food or shown the party is stronger.

Treasure

A chest with 40 gp, a Potion of Healing, and a stolen family locket the merchant will pay 10 gp extra to recover.
